This Data Usage Policy explains in practical terms how Barood uses the data you generate when you train, track calories, join challenges, and use other features of the app. It complements our Privacy Policy, which covers the legal basis for data collection and your rights.
1. Fitness & Workout Data
Your workout session records (exercises, sets, reps, duration) are used to:
- Display your history, progress charts, and personal bests on your profile
- Calculate your XP and level progression
- Fuel leaderboard rankings within challenges
- Inform program recommendations based on training volume and frequency
Aggregated, anonymised workout trends across all users help us understand which exercise categories are most popular and improve default program designs. This data cannot identify you individually.
2. Calorie & Nutrition Data
Your calorie logs and food diary entries are used to:
- Display your daily intake vs. your calorie target
- Track macronutrient breakdowns (protein, carbohydrates, fat)
- Show nutritional trends in your weekly and monthly summaries
Your nutrition data is private by default. It is never visible to other users, Pro Trainers, or corporate workspace administrators unless you explicitly share it.
AI Calorie Camera
Photos captured with the AI Calorie Camera are transmitted over an encrypted connection to our AI service for food recognition and nutritional estimation. Photos are processed immediately and are not retained on our servers. We do not use your food photos to train AI models without explicit consent.
3. Body Metrics
Weight, height, and body-composition data you log are used exclusively to:
- Calculate personalised calorie targets and macro splits during onboarding and plan edits
- Display your body-composition progress over time on your personal dashboard
Body metrics are never shared with other users, trainers, or employers. They are stored encrypted in our database and accessible only by your account.
4. Activity & Movement Data
If you grant location and motion permissions:
- Step count: Used to display your daily activity and contribute to relevant challenges (e.g., step-count competitions). Synced from your device's health platform (Apple Health / Google Fit) only when you open the app.
- Running routes: GPS data captured during tracked runs is used to display your route on a map, calculate distance, pace, and elevation. Raw GPS coordinates are not shared with other users; only aggregated stats (distance, time, pace) appear on leaderboards.
You can revoke location permissions at any time in your device settings. Run tracking and location-dependent challenge features will be unavailable without this permission.
5. Streak & XP Data
Your streak and XP are game mechanics that reflect consistent engagement with Barood. They are used to:
- Drive the leaderboard on the Challenges screen
- Display your rank on your public profile (if profile is public)
- Unlock level-gated features as you progress
Streak and XP calculations happen server-side and cannot be manipulated locally. Attempts to artificially inflate these values violate our Terms of Service and may result in account suspension.
6. Program & Challenge Data
When you enrol in a Pro Trainer program:
- Your session completion data is visible to the program's trainer (completed vs. skipped sessions, completion dates)
- The trainer cannot see your calorie logs, body weight, or personal metrics
Challenge participation (join date, completion status, XP earned) may appear on public leaderboards and in aggregate challenge statistics visible to all participants.
7. Analytics & Product Improvement
We use aggregated, anonymised data to understand how users interact with Barood so we can improve the product. For example:
- Which screens are visited most frequently
- Where users drop off during onboarding
- Which challenge types generate the most engagement
- App performance metrics (load times, crash rates)
This analytics data is processed by Google Firebase Analytics. It cannot be used to identify you individually. We do not share individual-level analytics with advertisers or third parties for marketing purposes.
8. Corporate Workspace Data
If you use Barood through an employer's corporate workspace:
- Your workspace administrator can see participation metrics only (e.g., "65 employees joined this month's challenge")
- Administrators cannot see individual calorie logs, body weight, workout details, or any personal health data
- Corporate workspace membership is visible to your administrator
9. Push Notifications
Barood uses push notifications for:
- Daily streak reminders
- Challenge start/end alerts
- New program content from trainers you follow
- Subscription confirmations and renewal reminders
You can manage notification preferences at any time in Settings > Notifications or through your device settings.
10. Data We Do Not Use
To be explicit about what we do not do:
- We do not sell your personal or health data to any third party
- We do not use your health data to serve targeted advertisements
- We do not share your data with insurance companies, employers (beyond what is described in section 8), or healthcare providers
- We do not use your food photos to train AI models without your explicit consent
- We do not track your location when the app is in the background unless you are actively recording a run
